Tillamook Oregon Cheese – With a French Twist!
If you mention the words Tillamook and Cheese together, you will most likely think of a two pound block of standard, orange, American cheddar. But, my dear friend, Tillamook has more than the standard to offer!
While on a camping trip to the Oregon Coast with my family, we took a day trip into Tillamook. After a cup of coffee and cinnamon roll at a great little coffee roastery, Five Rivers Cafe & Coffee Roasters (https://fiveriverscoffee.com), we headed south toward Tillamook. About a mile north of town, lo and behold, the sign for Blue Heron French Cheese Company (https://www.blueheronoregon.com) caught my eye. What? French cheese in the Oregon capital of cheddar? We had to stop and check it out.
Pulling into the parking lot reminded me of pulling into to a small, French country market in Normandy….. The colorful flowers, the big barn, and even a petting zoo for the kids. Blue Heron French Cheese Company has been a renowned destination since 1979. Originally focused on crafting exquisite brie cheese, they have expanded their offerings to include a diverse selection of Pacific Northwest wines, microbrews, gourmet foods and artisan cheeses, as well as unique gifts for everyone.

Upon entering the old barn, we noticed the old wood beams complimenting the wonderful displays of local wares. We immediately thought this would be the perfect starting point to build a picnic! Along with the jarred sauces and jams, bagged goodies, smoked meats, and tinned seafood, there is a cooler with an assortment of cheeses, featuring their amazing French Brie. They also have an award-winning delicatessen, where daily specials of cozy soups, hearty sandwiches, and the freshest salads are offered to tempt their guests.

Along side the wonderfully unique assortment of tasty treasures, there are loads of fun gift ideas – whether it be for someone else, or a little gift for yourself! Soaps from Provence, locally made candles, fun local books, as well as other artisan creations.

The Blue Heron is a must-stop location when traveling the Oregon Coast. Whether it be for the makings of a beach picnic, unique gifts, a scoop of local ice cream, or to partake in wine tasting and live music around their fire pit, the Blue Heron shouldn’t be missed.
